Once again this week I attempted to read the book My name is Red, but I just ended up giving up. Over the thanksgiving break I had more time to read and quickly read through a lot of New Moon. I think if I finish New Moon I will start my name is red again. In this last section of New Moon, Bella is learning more how to deal with life and all of its situations without Edward at her side. Her father describes her as lifeless. He just wants her to have some emotion, not even a happy emotion necessarily just an emotion. Charlie, her father, even threatens to send Bella back to live with her mom. Bella knows she can not do this because leaving forks would also mean leaving her memories with Edwards. Bella decides to go hang out with one of her friends. Of course all of the thoughts she had lead back to Edward, and her friend was a bit frightened by her actions. At one point of their outing Bella believes she sees the men who almost attacked her the last night she had been in port Washington. As she neared the men Bella began to hear Edward’s voice, though obviously he was not there.
I have heard from many of my friends that this book does not include much about Edward. This somewhat disappoints me, he was one of my favorite characters. Personally the only reason I am still reading this book is to get to the part where Edward comes back in the end…( my friends aren’t good at keeping the ending from me).

I didn't like New Moon very much either, Linnea. Without Edward, Bella is empty. She hears his voice sometimes and it makes her do crazy things. I think that it shows how much she loves him, but also, that she was completely dependant on Edward. She defined herself in relation to him; I don't like that about her and I don't think that it is a very good message for girls.
